Redwood Valley Lolonis Vineyard
The i.e. wine company is the namesake of our daughters, Ida and Edith, but also my personal expression of our Hobo wine life. i.e. - in other words, or in this case – wines.
The label was designed by Hélène Druvert, a talented French paper artist. I found her art following the girls into a Paris book store. See her extensive work at www. helenedruvert.net/.
My second vintage and my first Chardonnay comes from the CCOF certified Lolonis Vineyard in Mendocino’s Redwood Valley. Planted in 1944, this vineyard is one of the oldest Chardonnay plantings in the state.
Harvested August 31, 2015, the girls tread the berries before pressing. The juice fermented in stainless steel with its own yeast and was racked to one new and 6 neu- tral barrels. The secondary fermentation was allowed to finish, and after aging for 10 months it was bottled on August 8, 2016 to the delight of Ida and Edi.
The finished wine is medium bodied with bright acid that balances the new oak. It is clean and refreshing, yet supple with aromas of peaches, quince, and happiness.
- To gather fruit from 70-year-old vines and provide the space and attention for it to transcend its roots, to extend beyond its place to your table is a true blessing. Thank you for allowing it to reach yours.
