WOODSIDE, Calif. — If you poke around the subdivisions in the foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains, you may come across the remnants of La Questa Vineyard, which 100 years ago was thought to produce the finest cabernet sauvignon in California. It was first planted in 1884 by E. H. Rixford, a lawyer who modeled his 40 acres of vines on the blend used at Château Margaux. Now, the few remaining vines survive in one of the many yards in which residents enjoy the high-status hobby of grape-growing.....
